- Establish a clear protocol for responding to law enforcement at school. Train all staff to ensure they understand and follow the policy.
- Define and mark private school areas (e.g. anything past the visitors’ side of a school’s front desk) to uphold Fourth Amendment rights.
- Require all guests, including law enforcement, to pass through an administrative office. Officers must present a valid judicial warrant or subpoena for review before entering the school.
- Limit the information that is collected from students and their families. Avoid collecting information about immigration status and birthplace.
- Provide Know Your Rights materials, posters, and trainings to educate immigrant students and families on their rights.
