Dear Mr. President,
 
I am writing to urge you to take swift action to expand and protect access to abortion for everyone in this country — including immigrants. 
 
Since the Supreme Court ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, several states have banned most abortions. On top of new restrictive state laws, immigrant communities face specific and significant barriers to making decisions about their health care. These include being denied health insurance, the risk of Border Patrol checkpoints when traveling to seek care, a lack of access to resources in preferred languages, and more. 
 
I am urging your administration to address barriers to access to abortion for immigrant communities by taking the following actions: 
 
-Commit, through policy, that all people in detention be given access to abortion if they desire it.  Doing so for those for in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody was a good first step, but more can be done — especially for other agencies like the Office of Refugee Resettlement and Customs and Border Protection.

-Ensure that everyone can safely travel out-of-state or of out of the country, without risk of detention or deportation, to access reproductive care. I am calling on you to set a policy that affirms that anyone can safely travel through immigration checkpoints to access health care without repercussion.

-Make sure that any public facing resources on abortion are available in at least the top fifteen languages spoken by people with limited English proficiency and vetted by community-connected reviewers to ensure they are culturally competent. No one should be unable to access abortion services because information is not available in the languages they read. 
 
I know you have pledged commitment to restoring and expanding the right to access abortion care, and I urge you to do everything in your power to do so in a way that protects the rights of all communities, regardless of immigration status.
